Can I stamp my own text instead - a firm name or an invoice number?

No. The five formats are fixed and all of them are built around the page number, so a footer reading "Ramesh Traders - GSTIN 27AAB..." is not something this does. It is a numbering tool rather than a stamping tool, and it does one thing rather than half of two.

Can I change the colour, or put the number in a box?

No. The number is drawn as plain black text with no background, border or shading. On a scanned page with a dark footer that can be hard to read, and the fix available to you is moving it to one of the other five positions or increasing the distance from the edge.

What if the corner already has something printed in it?

The number is drawn on top of the existing content, so it will overlap. This is why the preview shows the real page rather than a blank one - click through a few pages before exporting, and if a corner is busy, pick a different position or push the margin out.

Can I leave the first page unnumbered?

Yes. Switch to "only the pages I pick" and select from page 2 onwards. The numbering then starts on the first page you picked, using whatever you set as the starting number, so page 2 of the file can still be printed as 1.

Does numbering change anything else in the document?

No. Every page is copied as it is and one short line of text is drawn on the pages you chose. Text stays selectable, images stay as they were, and a barcode on the page is untouched vector artwork - nothing is flattened or re-rendered.

Add page numbers to a PDF

Numbering earns its keep on the documents a seller hands to somebody else. A courier handover sheet running to nine pages needs to say so, or the sheet left behind on the counter is never missed. A GST annexure filed with its pages loose and unnumbered is the kind of thing that gets queried a year later, when nobody remembers what order it was in.

This stamps a number onto each page and changes nothing else about the file. The preview is your actual page, drawn from the document, with the number placed by the same geometry the exporter uses - so where it sits on screen is where it lands in the PDF, including on pages that carry a rotation.

How it works

Add the PDF. One file at a time. The first numbered page appears in the preview panel straight away, with the rest of the document as a grid of thumbnails below it.
Set how the number looks. Six positions, three along the bottom and three along the top. Five formats: 1, Page 1, 1 of 12, Page 1 of 12, or - 1 -. Then the number to start at, the size in points, the distance from the edge and one of three typefaces.
Choose which pages get one. Every page, or only the pages you pick - the usual reason being a cover sheet that should stay clean. Each thumbnail shows the number that page is going to receive.
Check the preview and export. Click any thumbnail to preview that page with its number in place. When it looks right, export; the file is saved as yourfile-numbered.pdf.

Your files stay on your computer

This runs inside your browser tab. The file is read and written on your own device and is never uploaded — not the order PDF, not the customer names and addresses printed on it. There is no upload endpoint to send it to.
