Crop the pages of a PDF

Most PDFs that need cropping were not made for you. A courier hands out a label sitting in the corner of an A4 sheet, a supplier sends a catalogue page with two inches of white down one side, or a phone-scanned manifest arrives with the edge of a desk in the picture. The content is fine; there is simply too much page around it.

You draw the box once, on the page in front of you, and it is applied to every page you pick. The box is stored as a share of the page rather than as a measurement, so a file whose pages are not all the same size still crops in the same place on each of them. What is kept stays vector - text is still selectable text and a barcode is still the same artwork, so it still scans.

How it works

  1. Add the PDF. One file at a time. The first page opens in the editor and every page appears as a thumbnail underneath it.
  2. Drag the box. Draw a rectangle over the part you want to keep. Drag inside it to move it, or grab an edge or a corner to resize it. The sidebar says how big the crop is in millimetres as you go.
  3. Choose the pages. Every page, or only the ones you pick. In pick mode the thumbnails become clickable and the range box accepts numbers like 1-3, 7, 9-12. Pages you leave out come through at their original size.
  4. Export. The button wakes up once the box is actually smaller than the page, so you cannot download an identical copy by accident. The file is saved as yourfile-cropped.pdf.

What it handles

  • One box, drawn once, applied to every page you choose
  • Stored as a share of the page, so mixed page sizes crop in the same place on each
  • Drag inside the box to move it, or an edge or corner to resize it
  • The crop is shown in millimetres beside the page's own size, so you can check it against your label stock
  • Pages you did not pick are copied through untouched, at their original size
  • A page that was displayed turned stays turned, cropped to the box you drew on the picture rather than to the raw page underneath
  • What falls outside the box is removed from the file, not hidden by a crop box
  • Text stays text and vector artwork stays vector - nothing is re-rendered as a picture
  • A page with nothing on it is kept whole and named in a notice, rather than failing the whole export

Your files stay on your computer

This runs inside your browser tab. The file is read and written on your own device and is never uploaded - not the order PDF, not the customer names and addresses printed on it. There is no upload endpoint to send it to.

Questions

Is the cropped-away part really gone, or just hidden?
Really gone. Many tools set a crop box, which is only a window onto the page - the invoice you cropped off is still in the file and still comes out of any text extractor. This rebuilds each page from the part inside your box, so what you removed is not in the file that downloads.
Can I use a different box on different pages?
Not in one pass. One box applies to every page you pick, which is what a batch of labels or a scan with consistent margins needs. For a file that needs two different crops, run it twice picking a different set of pages each time, then join the results with the merge tool.
Will a cropped shipping label still scan?
Yes, as long as the box you drew includes the barcode's quiet zone - the clear space at each end. The barcode itself is copied as the same vector artwork it always was, at full fidelity, so nothing is softened or resampled by the crop.
What happens to pages I did not pick?
They are copied into the new file exactly as they were, at their original size, in their original place in the document. Cropping only some pages is a normal thing to want - a cover sheet usually needs to stay whole - so the page count never changes.
Is my file uploaded to be cropped?
No. It is read, rewritten and downloaded by this browser tab on your own machine, so the names and addresses printed on those labels stay with you. There is no server copy of the file at any point, and the tool keeps working with the network off.
